We are excited to let you know that Municipal Ballet Co. is now officially a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We're starting to adjust to our new status, and making the most of it in 2017 . . . deciphering Quickbooks, writing grants, but most importantly, creating more shows! Here is what we have planned for 2017:
METATRANSIT is a collaboration with local electronic sci-fi dance pop music duo Conquer Monster, held at the Urban Lounge on April 7th & 8th. Doors at 6pm, Show starts at 7pm. This is our first all-female cast, and our first ballet set in the future. We're so excited about it!!
We have another new ballet planned for August, which is a collaboration with local composer and musician Eric Rich, who many Salt Lake residents will recognize as the guy with the piano-bike. We love dancing in the open air, so this ballet will be a series of outdoor performances in different, wild locations.
Lastly, we're so excited to bring back our River of Rosewater performance in December. We enjoyed this holiday show, with Pixie and the Partygrass Boys' renditions of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite," so much that we all wanted to do it again. And, last year's show sold out so quickly, we hope to be able to share it with even more people this year.
Along with those scheduled performances, we hope to throw in our usual last-minute, free performances, and appearances at local festivals and other events as well. Follow us on social media to find out when and where we'll be bringing you our ballet.
And, after five years of borrowing studio space here and there, and moving in and out of the Salt Lake City Public Library, we're getting really close to securing a permanent home for Municipal Ballet Co.!! This is so exciting for us, and will not only help us hold more rehearsals for our ambitious year of performances, but it will also allow us to offer consistent classes, open to the public. We are really looking forward to the possibility of having a space that will support a kind, creative, hard-working community, where everyone can feel free to do ballet their way. We'll keep you updated, and we hope to see you soon at our upcoming performances!!
